Chennai Corporation Budget highlights

The Chennai Corporation finalized the Budget for the coming year on Monday. A variety of measures to improve the standards of the city’s infrastructure have been budgeted for. Chennai Mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy said that the Corporation will plant nochi plants along the river and the canals to combat the mosquito menace. Seven new flyovers and five pedestrian subways will be built notably in TTK Road, Kodambakkam, Vadapalani and Kasturba Nagar.
Mr. Duraisamy also announced several improvements in schools run by the Corporation. English medium classes will start for Std. I in 10 schools. Fine Arts, Math and English labs will also be set up.
The budgeted expenditure is said to be Rs. 3,630.5 crores and the income Rs. 3,629.4 crores which will lead to a deficit of Rs. 1.1 crores.
