IPL asks for security for Lankan players

Posted on: 25/Mar/2013 11:01:20 AM
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has filed a request with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to provide protection for its teams in Chennai. With the exception of Kings XI Punjab, all the teams have at least one Sri Lankan player and organizers are worried about their protection in light of the strong anti-Lankan protests in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai’s own team the Chennai Superkings has two players from the island nation. They are Akila Dhananjaya and Nuwan Kulasekara. The others are Kumara Sangakkara and Thisara Perara from Hyderabad Sunrisers, Mutthiah Muralidharan and Tillakaratne Dilshan from Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kusal Janith Perara from Rajasthan Royals, Ajantha Mendis and Anglo Mathews from Pune Warriors, Lasith Malinga from Mumbai Indians, Sachithra Senanayake from Kolkata Knightriders and Jeevan Mendis and Mahela Jayawardene from Delhi Daredevils.
