Chandy asks Italian marine trial to be held in Kollam

The Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to instill a special court in Kollam to try the Italian marines. He asked the sessions court in the town to be converted to a special court for the trial and demanded that the trial take place in Kollam itself, as the legal proceedings for the case began there. ‘The same court may be considered as the special court suggested by the Union Government for holding their trial’, he said.
The marines Massimiliano Lattore and Salvatore Girone have been accused of killing two Indian fishermen off the coast of Kerala.
