Prospects of widespread rains in Tamil Nadu until 27th July!

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects of widespread rains in Tamil Nadu until 27th July.

A cyclonic format has developed in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the Bay of Bengal due to convective rain phenomenon. This has led to rains in a few places in Tamil Nadu.

Maximum rainfall of 70 mm has been recorded in Chinnakkallaru. Dewala recorded 60 mm of rainfall and Valparai- 40 mm, Thamaraippakkam, Ponneri, Perumbudhur, Periyaru, Chingleput, Naduvattam, Mamallapuram, Kanchipuram, and Arkonam recorded a rainfall of 10 mm.

There were sudden rains in a few places in the Chennai Metro City and its suburbs yesterday (Tuesday, 23rd July). This led to stagnant water on many roads and streets.  There were traffic congestions in prominent roads of the city and a few sections in the suburbs as well.

In this situation, as the cyclonic format developed in the upper layers of the atmosphere over The Bay of Bengal has persisted in that spot, there are prospects of mild to medium rain in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

There are prospects of heavy rains in the Kerala border areas adjacent to Tamil Nadu and the districts of Nilgiri and Coimbatore.

The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that this will persist until 27th July.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon rainy season has intensified in states including Karnataka and Kerala. Due to this, the quantity of water opened out to Tamil Nadu has been increased.
