Southwest monsoon has given Chennai 17 % excess rainfall till now

The city of Chennai faced worst water crisis this summer and it made lives of the residents very difficult.It must be noted that the taps became dry, many businesses came to standstill, IT professionals were asked to work from their homes etc. The point is these have eased now in the last 2 months of time and the reason for that is because of southwest monsoon that brought rains in Chennai.
It is superb to note that this southwest monsoon has given Chennai 17% excess rainfall till now. This was as per the Indian meteorological department. More rainfall is expected in the coming days and this was according to the forecast made by the meteorological department. At the Nungambakkam observatory, between 1st June and 25th August 2019, against an expected average of 294.6 mm rainfall the monsoons have brought 344.4 mm rainfall.
Light rains are likely to occur in some areas in the evening or in the night. The sky is likely to be partly cloudy in the forenoon and generally cloudy afterwards. This was as per the RMC.From middle of September, the rest of India faces break monsoon and the rainfall intensity would increase from this time. This was according to Mr. Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning centre.
He was hopeful that Chennai would get good rains from 15th of September. He spoke about how the monsoon trough is normal now and how it would become weak or moves north then there would be break monsoon leading to convective rains in Chennai. Finally he highlighted about how the southwest monsoon would be 100 % normal for Chennai and how we have to look forward to the northeast monsoon.It must be noted that except for the years like 2012, 2015 and 2018 when Chennai had little less than average rainfall southwest monsoons have brought normal or above normal rainfalls since 2009.
This was as per the records. The point is in the last 4 years it has been normal or in excess when northeast monsoon either failed or caused floods. From the month of June to September, Chennai city gets an average rainfall of 450 mm is known.Northeast monsoon is responsible for much of Chennai rainfall that is around 850 mm and this monsoon failed in 2018. When compared to north Chennai, many parts in the south got good rains this season and this was as per the Chennai weather blogger Mr. Pradeep John.
He added that places like Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai would get rains on Wednesday. When compared to rest of Chennai, localities from Mylapore towards south of Chennai got nearly 20 % excess rains. Mr. Pradeep John highlighted that Meenambakkam has already crossed 400 mm rains and Nungambakkam is still around 260 mm..
