Four dairy companies such as Thirumala, Jersey, Heritage and Dodla have increased the rates of milk now in Tamil Nadu and this has shocked many customers now. It is now said that the private milk brands would cost Rs 8 to Rs 12 more than Aavin. In the coming days, the price of tea, coffee and hot beverages in the hotels and restaurants might also increase. From today onwards, the revised price rate for the milk would come into effect in TN.

Information is that the combined share of the 4 companies in retail sales of milk in the state is 40 to 45 percent per day. One litre of Aavin milk now costs Rs 40 and one litre of other milk brands like Thirumala and Heritage would cost Rs 50. One litre of Jersey milk would cost Rs 48.

It must be noted that one litre of standardised milk from Aavin cost Rs 44 and it would be Rs 60 (increased from Rs 58) for the 3 milk brands except Dodla milk. In June, the price of Aavin milk was slashed by Rs 3 per litre and due to this reason the demand for Aavin milk went up.

It is now brought out that the demand for Aavin milk would go up further. This was according to Mr. Ponnuswamy, state president of TN Milk Dealers Welfare Association. He then explained that during the lockdown the private diaries had reduced their procurement rates by Rs 10 to Rs 15 per litre due to the lack of demand. It is worthy to mention here that per day milk demand in Tamil Nadu is 2.1crore litres and dairy farmers consume 20litres to 25 litres. Point is that Aavin procures 38lites to 39 litres of milk. Hotels, tea shops, hospitals and various commercial establishments receive 40 litres to 45litres of mostly full cream milk.
