Weather Update for Chennai and Surrounding Areas

Posted on: 08/Jan/2024 9:59:14 AM
Chennai and its neighboring regions are experiencing varied rainfall patterns, with some areas receiving heavy downpours. As of now, the southern parts of Chennai up to Mahabalipuram are witnessing rain clouds, resulting in substantial rainfall in the Delta to Chengalpet belt. Notably, certain Delta regions, including Tiruvarur and Srikazhi, have encountered extreme rains, surpassing 200 mm.

While there is a possibility of heavy rains in Chennai today, the intensity may not reach the very heavy mark, making it more manageable for residents. The heavy rain clouds seem to have shifted from the Delta region towards Villupuram districts, extending up to Chengalpet and South Chennai suburbs.

Currently, Tiruvarur and Srikazhi have recorded rainfall exceeding 200 mm, and Nagai district is likely to have received around 150-200 mm. Chengalpet and Mahabalipuram have seen 120 mm, while Ariyalur has experienced 50-90 mm. South Chennai areas have received 50-70 mm. The forecast indicates continued heavy rains in the Villupuram to Pondy to Tiruvannamalai belt, affecting areas like Chengalpet, Ranipet, Kallakuruchi, and Cuddalore.

As the weather evolves, residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions, especially in regions prone to heavy rainfall.
