The GM of Southern Railways or SR, Mr. R.N. Singh has confirmed that the fourth terminal would be coming up at Perambur instead of Villivakkam. Now a master plan for this is being prepared.
On Wednesday, Mr. Singh was busy attending the post-budget news conference at the zonal headquarters. He spoke about how SR has been planning to develop 2 additional railway lines (Line 5 and Line6) between Perambur and Ambattur for developing a proposed terminal. Point is that a survey for this has been carried out. Later, a feasibility study would be undertaken and a DPR or detailed project report would be sent to the Railway ministry in October month.
Information gathered is that there are enough lands in Perambur and works regarding the new terminal would get completed by 2028.
Tambaram terminal redevelopment project:
In another 10days, a DPR would be submitted and this was as per the GM of SR. The execution of this project would be carried out in PPP or public-private partnership mode. Buildings would be developed on the vacant plot by the developer. By the month of October, sanction would come from the ministry. The GM of SR explained that the bidding would take another 8 months or so and the work would involve lots of documentation as it would be PPP mode type.
Commencement of work:
Point is that in June 2025 the work regarding Tambaram terminal redevelopment would start and it would go on for 3 years. This was according to Mr. R.N. Singh.
