There is a small pouch that is attached to the large intestine and this is the appendix. In some persons, the appendix would become inflamed and pus would be present and this condition is known as appendicitis. Especially in the kids, appendicitis is quite common and it must be treated soon or else it could lead to serious issues later. There are possibilities of the appendix getting ruptured and this could result in peritonitis which is a serious problem.
It is noteworthy that parents must know the symptoms of appendicitis in their kids and this would be important in early diagnosis and treatment etc.
Various early signs or symptoms of appendicitis in the children that every parent must watch out for are
Abdominal pain:
Beginning from the belly button, the pain due to appendicitis would shift slowly to the lower right side of the abdomen. This abdominal pain is an important early sign for appendicitis issues in the kids. Over a period of time, the pain would become more and could be exacerbated by movement or cough or even deep breathing etc.
Loss of appetite:
Kids with appendicitis would not show much interest in eating foods or loss of appetite. The kids could have nausea and vomiting etc also. Point is that the lack of enthusiasm to eat foods is an early sign of appendicitis in the kids. Parents must look out for this sign.
Fever:
Initially, the fever due to appendicitis might be mild and fever would be of high intensity when the appendicitis condition worsens. So, parents must be careful regarding this.
Changes in bowel habits:
One of the warning signs of appendicitis in the kids is change in their bowel habits. The kids might get issues like diarrhoea, constipation etc due to appendicitis. The kids would have a bloating problem due to inflamed appendix. Parents must watch out for this sign.
Fatigue and irritation etc:
It must be noted that the kids with appendicitis would have abnormal fatigue plus irritation etc. The kids might not be able to sleep well due to the pain and discomfort that is associated with this condition.
