Walkathon for an important cause!!

We would have seen many patients around us after getting recovered from stroke or heart attack etc would not have regained their sensory functions. The reason is these patients would have had disruptions in their rehabilitation process.

At the famous Besant Nagar beach in south Chennai, a walkathon was organised by the occupational therapy students belonging to Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research or SRIHER. The objective behind this walkathon was to create awareness regarding rehabilitation.

For the effective follow up of rehabilitation therapy for stroke, heart attack and ortho patients to regain their sensory skills, more than 500 students and faculty members of the SRIHER took part in the walkathon with play cards etc..

The walkathon event was flagged off by additional registrar Dr. S. Senthil Kumar, HOD of SRIHER professor P. Raghuram and Consultant, Spastic Society of TN, Dr. V. Devaki etc. They mentioned that continuous and uninterrupted rehabilitation was as important as surgery for these patients to regain their sensory functions.

Various aspects of occupational therapy were exhibited by the students by means of group activities like collage work, pebble painting and hand sand printing etc.
