It is now said that from 2025 onwards Russia would offer visa free travel for the Indian tourists. It must be recalled that in June Russia and India discussed their bilateral agreement to enable visa free group tourist exchange. In the month of July, 22nd Indo-Russian summit took place and both countries welcomed the simplification of visa formalities. At this summit, the introduction of e-visa was carried out by both nations. Point is that these 2 countries agreed to further simplification of the visa regime in the future.
Indian tourists have been eligible for e-visas to Russia since August 2023 and normally e-visas would be processed in 4 days. About 9500 e-visas were issued to the Indian tourists by Russia in 2023 and this accounted for 6% of e-visas issued by Russia.
For the sake of work or business, most Indians travel to Russia. It is really amazing to note that in 2023 about 60000 Indians visited Moscow. This is about a 26 percent increase from 2022. In the first quarter of 2024, India went to third place among non CIS countries to visit Russia for business purposes. About 1700 e-visas were issued to the Indians.
Under the program that was launched in 2023, only people from countries like China and Iran could enter Russia without a visa. Now, it is brought out that Russia might include India also in this. Currently, Indian passport holders could travel to 62 countries across the world without visa.
