In commemoration of World Cancer Day, GEM Hospital, India’s premier Gastroenterology, laparoscopic and Robotic surgery hospital is proud to announce GEM Oncoshield, a month-long initiative in February to enhance access to expert cancer care for patients from across the country. The initiative is designed to provide invaluable support to cancer patients and their families by offering specialized services including free second opinions and advanced surgical treatments.

The `GEM Oncoshield` program features a comprehensive suite of services aimed at improving early diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care for cancer patients, especially those suffering from abdominal and gastrointestinal cancers.

"We believe that everyone deserves the best care, regardless of their circumstances," says Dr. C. Palanivelu, Founder-Chairman, GEM Hospitals. "On World Cancer Day, and throughout the month of February, we’re reaffirming our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible and affordable cancer care to everyone who needs it."

Key Highlights of the ‘GEM Oncoshield’ Initiative:

  1. Free Second Opinion for Abdominal Cancers: All patients diagnosed with abdominal cancers will receive a free second opinion from expert organ-based cancer specialists. This is designed to help patients make informed decisions about their treatment options and ensure they are receiving the best possible care.
  2. Virtual Multi-Disciplinary Tumour (MDT) Board: Outstation patients can now send their medical reports and get expert input on their cancer diagnosis and treatment options through a virtual MDT Board. This innovative service ensures that patients from anywhere in the country can benefit from a multi-specialty team’s decision-making without needing to travel.
  3. Screening for Familial Cancers: As part of the ongoing effort to combat familial cancers, a dedicated screening test will be conducted for family members of patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancers. This initiative focuses on identifying potential genetic risks and offering early intervention options for families at higher risk.

Dr. P. Senthilnathan, Director - GEM Hospital said, “We understand that receiving a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming. A second opinion can offer patients peace of mind and assurance that they are on the right path. Our specialists are committed to providing comprehensive, personalized care, and this initiative will allow many more people to access our expertise”.

"Robotic surgery is revolutionizing cancer treatment. It allows us to perform complex surgeries with unmatched precision and minimal disruption to the body. Advanced surgical options

ensure that more patients can benefit from cutting-edge technology without the added financial strain", Dr. Senthilnathan further added.

Dr. Srivatsan, Senior Consultant - Surgical Gastroenterologist, GEM Hospital, said "Cancer treatment requires a team approroach, and our Multi-Disciplinary Tumour (MDT) Board allows us to collaborate on complex cases, ensuring patients receive the most optimal treatment plan tailored to their individual needs. With our virtual consultations, geographical distance is no longer a barrier to quality care."

GEM Hospital’s comprehensive February initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to accessible, compassionate, and world-class cancer care. The program’s goal is to ensure that every patient, regardless of location or financial background, has access to cutting-edge treatments, expert opinions, and supportive care.
