Resumption of bus facility in Chromepet to help the residents - Whats happening now?
Chromepet, an important locality in south Chennai is now making news for this reason!!
Fifteen years back, bus route number 52E that connected Chromepet east and west was highly beneficial for the residents. Many residents travelled on this bus route. Later, this bus route number was stopped.
Now, the residents belonging to Chromepet have been demanding the TN govt to resume this bus route number 52E. It must be recalled that the residents belonging to Radha Nagar, Bharathi Nagar, Nemilichery, Zamin Rayapeath and Kurunji Nagar found the bus service 52E very useful for them.
Point is that since the bus service 52E had to wait at the railway gate for more time the service was stopped by the government in the year 2010. The residents took autos and taxis for their daily commute.
In this scenario, the Highways dept and Railways decided to construct a vehicular subway on the LC 26 in Radha Nagar. Despite the TN govt allocating Rs 60 cr for the subway works, the work did not start. It must be recalled that a few years back the officials have mentioned that a vehicular subway was not possible here but promised to construct a subway for pedestrians, 2 wheelers and light vehicles. Bitter fact is that even this work did not begin as planned.
The members of the resident welfare associations from Chromepet and Tambaram staged a protest yesterday and they demanded the resumption of the 52 E bus service. According to a member who took part In the protest, about 3.5lakhs people have been residing at Chromepet but they don`t have bus connectivity. He added that the protest would be taken to another level if the TN govt did not restart the bus service again.
