Heath Advisory issued - Higher temperatures above normal predicted for the next 4 days in TN!!

This is the month of March and the temperatures are increasing slowly now.

The Metrological dept has predicted higher temperatures up to 2 degrees Celsius to 3 degrees Celsius above normal during the next 4 days across TN. In this scenario, the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine has issued a health advisory.

On Monday a release from the DPH mentioned that the public must drink plenty of water, use ORS or oral rehydrating solutions plus drink homemade drinks such as lemon water, buttermilk, fresh fruit juices with a pinch of salt etc. The release also revealed about eating fruits and vegetables rich in water content and has asked the public to stay away from the direct sunlight.

According to the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, it was clear that the public must stay indoors in well ventilated and cool areas, keep windows and curtains closed during the day to block heat and open them at night for ventilation. The public have been asked to plan their outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day.

Extra care for persons with heart ailments, infants, young kids, pregnant women, outdoor workers, individuals with mental health conditions and those with pre-existing illness etc were also pointed out by the Directorate. There must be regular monitoring of elderly or unwell persons living alone.

For outdoor workers:

The Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine has advised the outdoor workers to reduce their direct exposure to sunlight, avoid strenuous physical activities in the peak heat hours, take frequent rests in cooler areas, drink water every 20 minutes, and ensure proper ventilation at the workplaces. It has also advised the outdoor workers to seek medical help if they experience dizziness, headache and signs of heat stress etc.

For public:

The Directorate has advised the public not to step out between 12noon till 3pm and has asked them not to consume alcohol, tea, coffee, carbonated soft drinks, sugary beverages etc. Finally, kids or pets must not be left in parked vehicles because the temperature inside could become high.
