Weight loss even when you are not exercising

Hitting the gym does help in weight loss but you need to follow a few rules outside the gym as well. Here are a few tips to keep you on the weight loss mode even when you are not working out. 

The International Sports Sciences Association has recommended drinking 8 to 12 glasses of water a day to ensure that the liver metabolises fat effectively. Drinking water also keeps you feeling fuller. So keep the intake of water up. 

The University of Chester has found that you can lose up to 0.7 calories a minute just by standing up as opposed to sitting down. Standing up for 3 hours a day can help burn an extra 144 calories. So stand up when you have the opportunity. 

Make sure to burn more than you eat. Find out what your basal metabolic rate is and consume a little lesser than that. The basal metabolic rate is the amount of calories you need to burn to exist. Here is a formula to help you: 

Women: BMR = 655 + ( 9.6 x weight in kilos ) + ( 1.8 x height in cm ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )

Men: BMR = 66 + ( 13.7 x weight in kilos ) + ( 5 x height in cm ) - ( 6.8 x age in years )

Don`t follow fad diets. Instead change your food habits to prove fat loss. Swap calorie heavy foods with healthier options. For example, use whole grains like millets or quinoa instead of rice. Grill your chicken instead of making curries. Pay attention to the amount of sugary drinks that is part of your diet. Try to swap those for tea or coffee or plain old water. 

Sleep for at least 6 hours a night.
