Now-a-days, there are plenty of advertisements which suggest that the children need to just apply sanitizers and there is no need for washing with soap. Is this right? No. It is wrong.

It is always best for the children to wash their hands with soap. On the other side, suggesting to wipe the hands with sanitizers is an avehnue to increase laziness.

Sanitizer is simply a germicide. It has 2 types - one containing alcohol and the other without alcohol. Sanitizers are available in the form of gels, foam, or liquid. However, the degree of protection given by it is not equivalent to washing with soap.

The smell from the sanitizer is indeed sweet. However, it affects the breathing system severely. It might be a reason for children to be affected by asthma. The sanitizer may also affect the skin. Itching, swellings and polyps may form. Moreover, sanitizer does not remove germs and bacteria completely. It does not even remove the dirt in the hand completely.

Sanitizers containing no alcohol may lead to nerve-related problems. There may be impotency, weakening of muscles, etc.

A chemical known as Phthalate’ is added in sanitizer for the sweet smell. However, as per a recent survey, pregnant women using this may give birth to deficient babies.

Paraffins are also added in sanitizers. This tends to block the pores in skin and thickens the skin. This may gradually lead to skin diseases. So, the medical truth is that it is always better to wash our hands with soap rather than using sanitizers.
