In this study, 46 participants were involved including men and women. They belong to the age range of 21 and 69. Their BMI ranged between 22 and 30. All of these participants had the regular practice of chewing gum at least once in a week.
The group of participants were divided into 2 different groups. One group was made to chew 2 gums every day for a period of 15 days. The other group was made to consume the gum contents dissolved in water without the gum base, and they additionally went on for walking for 15 minutes. To calculate the energy and expenditure, all their heart rates and walking speed were measured.
Certainly, you burn a lot of calories by walking. Walking while chewing gum was able to shed more calories with men aging above 40 years. There was not much difference with energy expense in women though.
