Sometimes excess fluids build up inside our body and this is termed as water retention. Another name given to this water retention is edema. This water retention in our body can occur in the circulatory system, within the tissues and cavities etc. Some of the effects of this water retention are swelling in our feet, ankles, hands etc. It is important to note that water retention occurs in pregnant females and also in many females before their periods. This water retention also takes place in those persons who are bedridden etc.
There are few ways by which we can overcome this water retention in us.
Dandelion intake:
Reduction in water retention could be possible by consuming dandelion which is a natural diuretic herb. Water retention is reduced by frequent urination and this frequent urination takes place when we consume dandelion herb.
Reduce intake of salt:
This is also one superb way to overcome this water retention issue in us. It is said that 5 gms of salt is needed daily. Sodium and chloride are present in this salt and when consumed by us sodium binds water in the body. As a result of this fluid balance is maintained both inside as well as outside the cells.
Intake of vitamin B6 foods:
Women with premenstrual syndrome or PMS are benefited by intake of vitamin B6 rich foods like walnuts, potatoes, bananas etc. Red blood cells are formed by vitamin B6. Reduction in the water retention in women with PMS is possible by the foods rich in vitamin B6.
Say NO to refined carbs:
Refined carbs like table sugar, white flour etc must be avoided as eating these could increase the blood sugar levels and insulin levels. It must be noted that this high insulin levels could cause our body to retain more sodium as re-absorption of sodium in the kidneys is increased. Hence there would be more fluid volume in our body.
Intake of magnesium rich foods:
It is superb to consume magnesium rich foods such as whole grains, dark chocolates, leafy green vegetables etc. This magnesium reduces water retention in us effectively.
Consume potassium rich foods:
Intake of foods rich in potassium is one superb way to overcome water retention as potassium decreases sodium levels plus increases the production of urine. Foods like bananas, tomatoes etc rich in potassium could be consumed by us. Potassium does superbly in sending electric signals and it keeps our body running. Heart health gets improved by potassium intake.
