In some women, a medical condition known as PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome would be present and due to this she would have multiple cysts in her ovaries. This condition would affect women of reproductive age. This endocrine based issue could result in various issues such as irregular periods, excess hair growth, heavy bleeding etc in the woman.
These issues would make the woman feel highly uncomfortable. In women, various health complications that are associated with PCOS are diabetes, obesity, sleep apnea etc. It is true that the exact reason why PCOS occurs in women is not known till now. However, it would be possible to manage PCOS well by consuming certain foods and avoiding certain foods.
Various foods that must be avoided by a woman with PCOS condition are
Avoid sugary foods or high carbs:
It is important that a woman with PCOS must avoid eating high carbohydrates or sugary foods. These women would have high insulin and glycemic index and intake of sugary foods or high carbohydrates foods would worsen the condition. Point is that excess intake of sugary foods would make the woman with PCOS gain weight. Women with PCOS must not consume artificial sweeteners, packaged juices etc.
Avoid red meat:
Foods like beef, pork and mutton etc are rich in saturated fats and these foods could increase the cholesterol levels. There are more chances of getting affected with cardiovascular diseases. Women with PCOS would gain weight by eating red meat etc and she would also have increased hormonal imbalance issues also.
Avoid processed junk foods:
The presence of excess amounts of salts and preservatives in the processed foods would make these foods unhealthy. The bad cholesterol levels (in women with PCOS) would become more when she eats foods that have trans-fats, artificial sweeteners etc.
Avoid dairy foods:
Milk and other products could be consumed in moderation only and not in excess by those women with PCOS conditions in them. It must be noted that excess intake of milk rich in carbohydrates could increase the blood glucose levels.
Avoid fried foods:
Saturated and hydrogenated fats are present in excess in fried foods like fritters etc. So these fried foods must not be consumed by women with PCOS. When a woman with PCOS consumes these foods then her estrogen production would become more and this might worsen the PCOS condition.
Avoid gluten foods:
It is necessary for a woman with PCOS to limit the intake of gluten and she must switch over to gluten free food. Examples of gluteten foods are pasta, cereals, wheat breads etc. By avoiding these foods, the woman with PCOS would have reduced inflammation. These foods are usually high in glycemic index and intake of these foods would increase the blood sugar levels.
