Why shouldn’t you let your child watch TV?

Children are always asked not to watch TV for long hours as it would affect their health. Though education advocates advice children to watch different educational programs on TV, zero TV viewing is recommended for them at all times.
 
It’s generally found that children get addicted to watching TV when their parents do. So, naturally, when you cut down watching TV, your child will also practice the same.
 
Reduce the below practices to avoid spending more time with TV:

·         Surfing through random channels without any specific viewing agenda

·         Do the first thing after waking up is to turn on the TV and leave it turned on, no matter you watch it or not

·         You do not have any interest on specific programs, but you keep watching just because it’s your habit

·         You remain at home and watch TV avoiding all the other important programs and schedules you have
 
What are the possible health effects watching TV can have on your child?
 
Obesity – this is one of the most important aspect observed in children who watch TV a lot, for more than 2 hours a day. This is mainly caused due to increase in consumption of snacks and other food items at the time of watching TV. And the displacement of physical activities stand as another firm reason.
 
Irregular sleep is yet another result of excessive TV watching habit. Behavioral problems are also possible in children.
