Statistics inform that every one out of 5 persons is suffering ulcer in the mouth.
How does ulcer form in the mouth?
The internal & the external tissues in the mouth get affected and there is an inflammation leading to wounds/polyps in the mouth. This is known as stomatitis or ulcer in the mouth. Lips, tongue, the insides of cheek, and parts of throat can get inflammation. This may lead to difficulties in speaking or chewing/swallowing food.
Siddha medicine system says that increase in bile may lead to inflammation or ulcer in the mouth. Excess heat in the body, shortage of essential nutrients and minerals such as iron, Vitamin C & B12, and Folic Acid, allergy to certain drugs/medicines, smoking & drinking habits hormone differences, unclean teeth & mouth, herbal virus, and even hereditary property may lead to ulcer in the mouth.
Generally, ulcer gets cured in 7 to 10 days. However, the wounds which do not heal over along period may develop into cancer.
How to avoid mouth inflammation?
We have to ensure that there are no constipation or digestion problems. To prevent excess heat in the body, we have to take extra amount of water, tender coconut, and fruits. We have to maintain our mouth & teeth clean. We can practice Yoga or meditation to reduce mental tension.
How to prevent mouth inflammation?
We have to frequently gargle with the water which was boiled with gooseberry tree leaves.
Also, water boiled with Amla (gooseberry), kadukkaai, and thaandrikkaai can be used for frequent gargling to get cured of mouth inflammation. This water can be drunk as well.
We can chew the leaves of Manathakkali plant for some time and then swallow it. Grated coconut can also be used for chewing. Mix a small amount of honey & butter (made out of cow`s milk) in a small quantity of milk and apply the affected areas. Another remedy is to grind maasikkai in milk , mix this paste with a bit of honey and apply.
Boil some raw rice, 1 teaspoon of green gram, fenugreek, and garlic together. Mix this with thick coconut milk and drink. This is a good remedy.
The green of Manathakkalli plant and Agathikkeeraican be made in a curry form with coconut and taken.
As soon as getting up in the morning, chewing a small piece of turmeric in an empty stomach can cure mouth inflammation.
Take a small bunch of mint leaves, chew them ensuring that they touch the affected parts. This also will cure mouth inflammation.
