Rameswaram is a rare place of sacredness and spirituality in India and so it is always accompanied with its northern twin Kasi for its holiness. The place has many reference in ancient Tamil literature and also in the famous Kambaramayanam where Rameswaram plays a very crucial platform.

Rameswaram is connected to all main cities all over India through Railway line and buses from various cities of Tamil Nadu connect directly to the city. Through Airlines one can reach Chennai or Madurai depending on the availability, Rameswaram is about 559 km from Chennai and 150 km from Madurai.

Ramanathaswamy Temple

This temple is the main spot to visit in Rameswaram, a place dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the Jyotirlinga Temples built during the 17th century. The temple has many mythological reference in Ramayanam. It has the name of longest temple corridor in the World ranging from 133 meters breadth to 197 meters length respectively. There are 1200 grand granite columns inside the corridor and so making it an architectural wonder with a rich history.

Dhanushkodi

Dhanushkodi literally means the end of a bow is the tip of the Pamban Island, a south-eastern tip of Tamil Nadu. Dhanushkodi was once a place where a big population lived and a big storm destroyed the entire place submerging many landscape into the Ocean. Now it is only a tourist spot with very few dwellers. The place is a wonder for anyone who like to stand in the extreme edge of the Indian sub-continent and enjoy the immense pleasure of adventure.

Jada-Tirtham

Located around 3.5 kms into the vicinity of Ramanathaswamy temple, this place dedicated to Lord Kapardisvara is considered as a holy pond and the scared belief of taking a holy bath here diminishes all our sins and problems.

Other Places

Adam's bridge or Rama Setu is a mythological bridge connecting Rameswaram to Srilanka, believed to be built of limestone by Vaanaraas for helping Lord Rama to reach Srilanka to save the Goddess Sita.
Many beaches are there throughout the place connected mainly through Sthalas (Holy place or temples) which will act as an Oceanic Spiritual travel. Other cities like Madurai, Kanyakumari, Tanjavur and Pondichery are some of the famous spots to travel from Rameswaram to touch the pinch of historical spiritual essence of Tamil Nadu.
