The Chennai division of Southern Railway clarified that the delay in EMU train services between Avadi and Ambattur on Monday was due to Metro waterline insertion work undertaken by the state government.
A caution order was issued for EMU train operations on the slow lines between Avadi and Ambattur railway stations, effective from September 19, limiting speeds to 20 KMPH.
On Monday, a trackman assigned to ensure safe train operations under this caution order stopped Suburban EMU Train No. 43212 (Tiruvallur–Chennai Central) at Avadi station around 8 a.m. due to water stagnation on the tracks caused by the Metro waterline work.
Restoration efforts were completed by 8:43 a.m., and normal train services resumed at 9 a.m., with restricted speeds continuing between Avadi and Ambattur, according to a press release.
