Cyclone Fengal LIVE: Tamil Nadu Faces Torrential Rains, Coastal Areas on Alert
The weather department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rains in seven coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu, on Saturday. Heavy rain, triggered by Cyclone Fengal, began affecting these areas from Friday night, causing waterlogging in several parts of Chennai, including Velachery, Madipakkam, Alandur, Porur, and Anna Salai.

Since 6:00 AM, parts of north and south Chennai have received 130 to 150 mm of rain.

11.03 AM: In response to the cyclone and heavy rain alert, the Madras Jewellers & Diamond Merchants` Association has announced that all jewellery shops in Chennai and its suburban areas will remain closed on Saturday.
10.55 AM: The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has reported water stagnation in 12 subways across the city, but none have been closed.
