Government multi-specialty hospital in Chennai, Omandurar hospital has become the talk of the town now.

Located on Mount Road or Anna Salai in Chennai, Omandurar hospital is now being converted into a special facility for 350 beds for treating Covid-19 patients. This was mentioned by the state health minister Mr. C. Vijayabaskar. It is worth mentioning that other operations of this hospital would be wound up and the hospital would be dedicated only for treating patients who test positive for SARS-CoV-2.

He explained how the Omandurar hospital was new and was spacious and how these factors were responsible for turning this hospital for treating Coronavirus cases etc. He compared this hospital with other hospitals and said that in other hospitals there were some restrictions in shifting those patients who have been getting treatments for their other health issues. The health minister pointed out that to avoid giving inconvenience to the patients in other hospitals Omamdurar hospital was selected. It must be taken into account that new beds and ventilators would be procured for this specific purpose.

Health department officials also had discussions with Chennai Apollo Hospitals and CMC Vellore for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. Point is the health department managed to secure as many as 100 beds at Apollo and 250 beds at CMC for Covid-19 patient treatment.

To compensate for the expenses incurred on poor patients who might not be able to afford the fee of Rs 1500 (if negative) and Rs 4500 (if positive,), the provision would be made under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
