Chennai residents were feeling relieved and happy due to the reduction in the number of fresh Covid-19 cases from 21st of May. Now, after a period of 69 days, the number of fresh Covid-19 cases has increased. This has set the alarm bells ringing now.
On Wednesday, TN reported as many as 1756 cases and yesterday, 29th July TN reported as many as 1859 fresh cases of Coronavirus infection. It is well known to us that on 21st May 2021, the number of fresh cases reached a maximum of 36184. When compared to Wednesday’s fresh cases tally, on Thursday 20 of 38 TN districts reported atleast one and 26 more cases.
In the last 4 days, the number of fresh Covid-19 cases has been on the rise in Chennai, Coimbatore and Erode districts. On 26th July, the number of fresh cases in Chennai was 122 and it went up to 181 cases on Thursday. In the same way, the numbers went up from 164 to 188 in Coimbatore district and from 127 to 166 in erode district.
As per the health minister of TN, Mr. M. Subramanian, more testing is done now in TN. A week back, 1.3lakh people were tested for Coronavirus infection in a day in TN and it has now gone up to 1.5lakhs people per day. The increase in the numbers of fresh cases now is due to increased testing.
As many as 28 persons lost their lives due to this infection in TN on Thursday. The total number of deaths recorded in TN stands at 34023.
