Currently, the number of fresh Covid-19 cases and test positivity rate or TPR has been increasing in Chennai city. Ward level coordinators have been appointed by the GCC to fight the third infection wave.

It is brought out that based on the instructions given by the commissioner the zonal administrations have appointed ward level coordinators. Point is that assistant engineers plus conservancy inspectors, executive engineers and others have been appointed as ward level coordinators.

By taking turns, the three coordinators belonging to each ward would coordinate Covid-19 control measures. For 2 days a week, each coordinator would perform pandemic duty.

In the Chennai city, there would be door-to-door fever surveillance and this would be carried out by fever survey workers and temporary workers. These workers have been appointed under NULM or national urban livelihood mission. It is now said that these workers would be distributing medicines etc to those with co-morbid conditions. They would also be playing their part in dengue controlling in Chennai.

The circular issued by one of the Chennai zones stated that the ward level coordinators would be conducting meetings with the workers every day in their respective wards. The co-ordinators must ensure the continuation of ongoing Coronavirus infection containment activities apart from intensifying the third infection wave preventive measures.
