Wearing facemask has become very important due to the Coronavirus infection pandemic. Inspite of many warnings given, people still do not take it seriously and many go to public places etc without wearing a facemask. This has made many GCC officials very busy now.
In the last 4 days, 6372 persons have been fined in Chennai by the zonal enforcement teams composed of GCC officials and police personnel. As many as2010 persons have been fined on Sunday alone. An amount of Rs 12.74lakhs were collected from the violators in just 4days.
To increase facemask compliance, GCC commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Chennai police commissioner Mr. Shankar Jiwal plus various other officers including those from Avadi and nearby districts took part in a meeting. Point is that in the meeting a decision was taken regarding conducting a special drive from Thursday till 26th September to strictly enforce wearing of facemasks and physical distancing etc.
Beginning from last Thursday zonal enforcement teams have been enforcing the rules and imposing fines on the violators in places that are crowded like markets, wedding halls etc. As a part of the drive, static surveillance teams have been deployed is known. It must be taken into account that 15 enforcement teams have been formed to enforce the rule of facemasks.
