Metro train project in Coimbatore and Madurai - Latest details here!!
There is some good news for the residents of Madurai and Kovai now!!
It is now said that the metro train operations in these 2 cities in TN would be given more priority now than in the cities like Trichy and Salem etc. This was according to a senior officer from CMRL.
A detailed project report or DPR has been submitted by CMRL to the Union government regarding operating metro trains in Kovai and Madurai. It is known that CMRL is the PEA or project executing agency for metro projects in other cities.
The official spoke about how the DPR for Coimbatore and Madurai has been submitted already by the TN govt and the project features would be presented to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. For technical approval, the project would reach the PIB or public investment board. Later on, it would be sent to the union cabinet for approval.
For an estimated amount of Rs 10740 cr, a metro line has been planned in Coimbatore along Avinashi and Sathyamangalam Road. Localities like Tirumangalam and Othakadai would be linked by the Rs 11368 cr Madurai metro line.
Metro train in Kovai:
It has been brought to light that there would be 2 metro lines with 32 stations on the 39km stretch. The metro stations would be Ukkadam bus stand, Coimbatore Junction, Ram Nagar, Gandhipuram bus stand, Saravanampatti, Coimbatore medical college and Coimbatore airport etc.
Metro train in Madurai:
There would be 17 stations in Madurai and 10 important out of 17 would be Othakadai, High Court,Pudur, Simmakal, Madurai Jn, Pasumalai, Thirunagar, Thoppur, Kappalur and Thirumagalam metro stations.
The CMRL has confirmed that the metro rail project in Trichy and Salem has been put on hold and in Tirunelveli it would not be feasible for the metro rail project.
