Only 19 days remain (up to 30th September) for applying to get a subsidy for installing roof-top solar energy panels.
The central government has been encouraging the effort to install solar systems which will not affect the environmental system. Accordingly, for installing a rooftop solar power panel of a capacity of 1 kilowatt, the central government offers a subsidy of 30% or Rs. 18000 of the total expenses.
In Tamil Nadu, this project of offering the subsidy for installing roof-top solar panels in residences is handled by TEDA – Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency.
Earlier, the deadline to apply for this facility had been announced as end June. However, the level of enthusiastic response was rather low in this regard.
The central government has granted approval to the state government of Tamil Nadu to install solar power panels of up to 100 MW capacity.
However, so far, only 2350 persons have applied for a capacity of 21 MW.
An official from TANGEDCO explained regarding this as the deadline of end June approached, a letter was written to the central government to extend the same. However, there was no immediate response, late approval was given to extend it by another 3 months.
That deadline is fast approaching. In this situation, it is not known whether another extension will be given.
Hence, the public who is interested in setting up roof-top solar panels can contact TEDA immediately to get the subsidy for the same.
