Appearances can be deceptive!!

Many Chennai residents go for a late night film in the multiplex in the malls in Chennai.

These malls are usually well lit and police patrol vehicles are stationed outside. It might appear safe for a woman coming out after watching her favourite film. The point to be noted here is 300 m away from the mall darkness begins and this creates issues.

Recently, a woman after watching a late night film at the popular PVR Cinemas on ECR in Chennai had shock of her life when 2 men walked towards her. At that time, the cab she had booked arrived and she went in that cab. In the same way, at midnight, after watching a film at the famous Phoenix mall in Velachery, a IT professional had an issue with a an auto driver regarding the fare. It has been pointed out often by the managers of the malls and nightclubs that protocols were in place for the safety of a woman.

A bar consultant expressed his thoughts and spoke about how at some nightclubs women are escorted to their cars by the staffs and how when needed the transport was also arranged. He highlighted that once the women get dropped at her place then the driver would have to send SMS to the management regarding women safety. This procedure must be carried out at all the pubs compulsorily.

In Thirumangalam in Anna Nagar is located VR Chennai is known. As per Natasha Soni centre head, VR Chennai, her mall has got 25 percent of security staffs as women. She added that women generally feel safe when they see women security around them. She hinted about women security present at the basement of the mall. It must be noted that police stations around the malls did not receive any complaints from women regarding harassment.
