Koyambedu to Vanagaram in Chennai is not that far and the flower traders could feel happy now.

The news is from Monday a section of wholesale flower merchants from Koyambedu would move to a dedicated space in Vanagaram. It is said that the business would begin in the 5acre site in Vanagaram. This 5acre site belongs to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.

For the allotment of space at temporary markets to be set up at different locations in Chennai, the Market Management Committee or MMC of Koyambedu has given application forms for the wholesale and retail traders. The absence of dedicated space for the flower traders in Chennai has been an issue all these days.

From 24 locations in Chennai like Madhuravoyal, Madhavaram and Vadapalani etc, these flower traders have been functioning and this was due to absence of space. Just recently, notices were distributed by the Chennai Koyambedu Flowers Wholesale Merchants Association to the members.

As per the notice, it was clear that the flower loads from other places would be delivered at Vanagaram temporary market from Sunday night and sales would start by Monday morning. For this dedicated space in Vanagaram, a rental amount of Rs 7.5lakhs per month has been fixed.

It was later pointed out by some wholesale flower traders that there are about 750 members and the space might not be available for all of them.

According to Mr. A. Manoharan, wholesale flower merchant, shifting to new dedicated space at Vanagaram from Monday would be possible only if all of them were given space.

He added that about 400 flower traders have formed groups and are functioning from different parts of Chennai. Since the Koyambedu market was closed down in March to contain the Coronavirus infection, efforts have been going on to identify spots for the retailers seeking space for their business.
