The maximum temperatures in Chennai have gone more than 35 degrees and we are now in the month of April only. The coming days would be very hot with high temperatures.
It was brought out by the IMD or Indian Meteorological Department that the temperature would be 2 to 3 degrees higher than the average for the month in a few places in TN till Monday. On Friday, the day temperatures went high in several places belonging to Tamil Nadu.
It must be noted that Vellore recorded the maximum of 41.3degrees Celsius yesterday. Other places where the temperatures touched 40 degrees Celsius were Trichy, Karur Paramathi, Tiruttani, Salem and Erode etc. The wind direction would change to northerly and this would lead to rise in the maximum temperatures in the coming days. High temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Meenambakkam in Chennai and Nungambakkam recorded 35.5 degrees Celsius. The high humidity of 84% in Chennai made the temperatures look like 40 degrees Celsius.
Sustained accumulated temperature must be present for heat wave conditions and this was according to some officials. Weak weather system along with convective activity would lead to sporadic rains till 3rd of May. Point is that today there are chances for light rains in one or two places belonging to Western Ghats and adjoining districts like Madurai and Karur etc. Southern and some central places in Tamil Nadu would get rains this year when compared to northern parts. Surplus rains were witnessed in places like Tiruppur, Coimbatore and Thoothukudi etc.
It is worthy to note that places in northern Tamil Nadu have been waiting to get summer rains. Just one or two rainy days are only there in Chennai in March and in April months. Since 1st March, the Chennai district`s rainfall deficit has remained at 99%.
