Civic works have been carried out in several places now in Chennai is well known.
This has led to narrowing of the carriageways and diversions for many motorists etc. The delay in the completion of these works has resulted in issues for the residents. Both pedestrians as well as motorists have been facing issues now. Now, in several places in Chennai, there are traffic snarls on the arterial roads and the vehicles have been moving very slowly in both non-peak as well as in the peak hours.The Chennai residents are frustrated now due to this slow progression of the civic works.
The metro rail works have been going on for the last 6 months and still they have not been completed and many now criticise the slow progress made by CMRL. It is surprising to note that in Chennai in many localities GCC, CMRL, Highways department, CMWSSB and Tangedco have been carrying out various civic works.
To facilitate CMRL work on R.K. Mutt Road, a new diversion was introduced just last week at the junction of Greenways Road in Chennai. This has been troubling many motorists coming from Adyar as they have to take a long route to reach their destinations. Those motorists who use Luz Church Road in Mylapore also face issues now.
It must be noted that the carriageway on the Royapettah High Road has shrunk now. Point is that the 4 way junction has become very chaotic. There is now disorganised movement of motorists here.
According to the ED of Citizen Consumer Action group S. Saroja, civic works have been carried out without taking pedestrians into account. She shed light on how MTC buses were diverted without any prior information. Only with respect to arterial roads, prior information about diversion was available.
Perumbakkam Main Road in south Chennai connects important places like Medavakkam and Sholinganallur etc having many IT firms, colleges and hospitals etc. The metro rail works here have been creating huge issues for the residents. Truth is that the already crowded 2 lane has become narrower and due to this many traffic jams take place here.
The slow progression of metro rail works in Medavakkam Main Road has been an issue for many pedestrians and motorists. It is known that this main road connects various residential areas like Kovilambakkam, Medavakkam, Nanmangalam, Keelkattalai, Moovaranpet, Vanuvampet etc in south Chennai. The poor road conditions here have led to a lot of hardships for many motorists.
