After accepting initially but later on if you have been denied by the drivers of the cabs and autos for rides in Chennai, then you are not alone!!
The good news is that hereafter there would not be any refusal for rides in autos and taxis for the Chennai residents from auto drivers and taxi drivers etc. It is now brought out that the GCTP have started booking the drivers of taxis and autos for accepting rides initially but later refusing the rides for various reasons.
For denying rides to the passengers, the traffic police personnel are allowed to collect Rs 5000 as fines under the section 178 3(b) of the New Motor Vehicles Act. Based on the complaints pertaining to rides offered by online aggregators like Ola and Uber etc, the cases are booked now. The move to collect fines from the drivers of taxi and autos for refusi rides has been highly appreciated by many now in Chennai.
It was revealed by a regular user of cabs from Avadi that earlier the taxi drivers cancelled the rides when the passengers refused to pay in cash or pay an extra of Rs 20 to Rs 50. He threw light on how the cab drivers cancel the rides now even when the passengers agree to the terms specified by the drivers of the cabs. It is true that many drivers are not willng now to take trips beyond 10km and 15km. This rule not only applies for the online based cab aggregators but the rule also applies for other regular autos/cabs also.
As per an auto driver from Madipakkam in south Chennai it was clear that the fare chart was devised in 2014 and it is outdated now. He spoke about how it would be possible to operate autos for Rsw `12 per kilometer now with huge rise in the fuel prices etc.
Last year, the Tn govt by taking into account fuel prices and travel rates etc suggested Rs 40 a sbase fare and Rs 18 for every added kilometer. The auto drivers did not accept this and they have urged the TN govt to adopt a dynamic pricing system.
