Production of cell-phones at the Chennai Nokia factory will stop from today.
After signing a contract with Tamil Nadu Government in 2004, the leading cell phone manufacturer Nokia from Finland commenced manufacturing of cell phones at Sriperumbudur near Chennai.
Nokia set up the factory in this place after the auto giant Hyundai started their production plant in this place.
Nokia provide employment for 8000 as direct employees and indirect job opportunities for 25000 persons.
The company suffered from Tax evasion problems compelling the closure of the factory.
Voluntary retirement was given to the plant employees.
Another 900 employees were given compensation from RS. 7.5 Lakhs to Rs. 9 Lakhs.
The production at the factory is stopped from today.
