Chennai and traffic congestion go hand in hand these days!!

It is known that GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has been trying its best and taking steps to control the heavy traffic in various places in Chennai. In the future, to relieve traffic congestion in Chennai, GCC has taken a resolution to construct 3 new flyovers at an amount of Rs 335 crores.

It is learnt that GCC has got plans to construct a flyover at Ganeshapuram replacing the present subway. In addition, GCC has plans to construct a flyover at the junction of Konnur High Road and Strahan’s Road and another along south Usman Road-CIT Nagar first main road. These flyovers would be built under the infrastructure and amenities fund. To get administrative sanctions, the proposal of constructing flyovers would be sent to the government.

It must be taken into note that the existing Ganesapuram subway has 2-lane undivided bidirectional carriageway with a footpath on one side. Point is that there are 4 railway tracks above the subway. From Pulianthope High Road to Ganesapuram subway, Dr. Ambedkar College Road has a 4-lane divided carriageway. In the Dr. Ambedkar College Road and at about 20m north of the subway, the Stephenson lane starts is known. This lane forms a 3 way junction and this leads to Vyasarpadi Jeeva Railway station. Between this road and subway, there is very heavy traffic congestion. Information collected is that GCC has got plans to construct a 4lane 680m flyover.

Connecting Konnur High Road and Strahans Road, GCC is planning to build a 2-lane bidirectional flyover. It is learnt that the GCC designed the new flyover to link the ramp portion of the current flyover at south Usman Road of 747m in length and 11m in width and move above CIT Nagar first and fourth main road junctions.
