The month of Aadi is over now!!

The traders at the Koyambedu market in Chennai sold flowers at cheap prices. The reason for that was to avoid the wastage of flowers. The traders are worried that despite the reduction in the price of flowers there might be lots of wastage of flowers.

Now, Aadi month has come to an end and temple festivals have also ended. The brisk business of flowers at the market has taken a back seat now. It must be noted that the rates of the flowers have decreased drastically and it has been responsible for the poor sales at the Koyambedu market.

As per Mr. S. Mookandi, secretary, Koyambedu Flower Merchant`s Association in the past tonnes of flowers used to be dumped every day due to poor sales. After the Coronavirus pandemic, both traders and farmers were badly affected. He concluded that during festival season or marriage season, the flower business would be superb or else flowers would be thrown away.

Truth is that at the Koyambedu market all flowers were sold at the lowest rates to avoid wastage. Normally, the flowers would not be dumped unless they were in bad shape because of the rains. In recent times, wastage of flowers has decreased in the Koyambedu market. According to a wholesaler, for more than 2 years sales were dull for Vinayaka Chathurthi festival. It is now expected that the prices of flowers would increase this year as there are no restrictions and there would be superb sales.
