This is second week in succession and the complaints from the passengers haven`t stopped yet and they keep coming!!

Point is that the passengers in the omni buses have been complaining about the increased cost of tickets. Special teams have been formed in TN to inspect the omni buses in the state. This was pointed out by the transport minister Mr. S.S. Sivashankar yesterday. A meeting took place between the transport minister and the officials belonging to the transport department to find a suitable solution for this issue.

The transport minister was busy addressing the press at the Secretariat. He revealed that many complaints were received from the passengers regarding omni buses over fleecing them during the long weekend.  Transport commissioner has now formed a special team to inspect the omni buses across TN. As many as 953 omni buses have been checked till now and 97 passengers complained about the excess amount that was collected as fares from them.

It is true that strict action was taken on the four omni buses that operated without getting permit. For several violations, an amount of Rs 11.04 lahs has been collected from the omni buses. The inspections by the special teams would continue till 22nd August 2022.

The transport minister spoke about how when excess fares were collected from the passengers in the omni buses then the amount would be returned back to the passengers and action would be initiated against these private buses.

This is not the first time this issue of over fleecing the passengers in the private buses across TN has come out.  In the past also, many times this has taken place and many complaints were received by the transport department. The meeting with the higher officers was held to provide a solution.

In the month of October during Navarathri and Deepavali festivals there would be continuous holidays and consultations were held regarding handling how to handle that situation. During the long weekend holidays, the omni buses have been hiking the fares 2 to 3 times the normal fares. This was as per a native belonging to Trichy working in Chennai.
