Intensifying tax awareness campaign on the social media by Chennai Corporation!!

As 4.91 lakhs bills of property taxes are yet to be collected from the residents and traders in 15 GCC zones in Chennai for 2024-25, the Chennai Corporation has intensified the tax awareness campaign on social media. It must be noted that the GCC has collected Rs 1921 cr from 8.92lakh property tax assesses this year. The civic body has launched a campaign to improve tax collection in the last week of April 20224 - March 2025.

By this month end, GCC would have to collect an amount of Rs 2424 cr and has intensified property tax awareness in WhatsApp. This was as per an official belonging to GCC. In this year, the total collections of property taxes have increased but the number of persons paying property taxes has reduced in many zones.

For the property tax payment in various zones, the assessees have also started to receive the notice from GCC regarding property taxes payment. Information gathered is that the daily collection of property taxes has started to increase this year and is Rs 10 crore per day.

It is learnt that last Friday Chennai Corporation collected Rs 9.97 cr property taxes and generated 6357 receipts. On the same day in 2024, the Chennai Corporation collected Rs 7.72 cr and generated 6630 receipts for those who paid their property taxes.

Teynampet zone, highest in total property tax collection:

In the central region in Chennai, Teynampet zone has collected Rs 362 cr as the total property tax collection and that has been the highest in Chennai. In Kodambakkam zone, the total property tax collection was Rs 181 cr followed by Anna Nagar with Rs 174cr. In the central region this year, 34percent of bills have not been collected from the assessees.
