Sensational!! By April 2025, electric buses will hit the Chennai roads!!

It is now said that by April 2025 electric buses would operate in Chennai. It is known that OHM Global Mobility under Gross Cost Contract has received the contract to purchase 500 low floor electric buses including air-conditioned buses.
It was mentioned by Mr. S.S. Sivashankar, transport minister that MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation in Chennai would pay Rs 77.16 per kilometre for non air-conditioned electric buses and Rs 80.86 per km for air-conditioned electric buses. For the operation of diesel buses, Rs 116per km was spent by MTC.
Important companies like OHM Chennai, subsidiary of Ashok Leyland and Switch Mobility and EVEY Trans and Aeroeagle automobiles took part and the contract was issued to OHM Chennai. Information collected is that OHM would operate electric buses manufactured by Switch Mobility.
For a period of 12 long years, OHM Chennai would be responsible for procurement, operation and maintenance of electric buses under the Gross Cost Contract. The electric charging of the buses and depot maintenance would be managed by the operator.
The transport minister concluded that under the GCC Model MTC would avoid a capital expenditure of Rs 875 crores in buying these electric buses.
