Foot Overbridges Planned for Safer Pedestrian Movement in Chennai

Posted on: 25/Jan/2025 12:13:30 PM

To ensure safe and convenient pedestrian movement, the Tamil Nadu State Highways Department will construct foot overbridges (FOBs) in two high-traffic areas - Koyambedu (near the DMDK head office on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai) and Velachery Railway Bus Stop on Velachery-Tambaram Main Road.

Both FOBs will feature escalators and elevators, catering especially to senior citizens and people with physical challenges. The Koyambedu FOB, costing Rs 18 crore, will be located between the grade separator and CMBT flyover, addressing safety concerns in a busy area prone to pedestrian accidents. Approximately 320 square metres of land will be acquired to prevent traffic congestion.

Bids for the construction have been issued, and the initiative aims to reduce traffic issues and ensure safer crossings on these arterial roads.
