Posted on: 25/Jan/2025 12:19:36 PM

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is in the final stages of land acquisition for the Phase II Metro Project, which spans 118.9 km across three corridors: Madhavaram-SIPCOT (Corridor 3), Light House-Poonamallee (Corridor 4), and Madhavaram-Sholinganallur (Corridor 5).

As of now, 114.22 hectares of the required 116.24 hectares have been acquired, with the remaining 2.02 hectares expected to be completed by May 2025. The ongoing work primarily focuses on the Rajiv Gandhi Salai stretch, where design changes delayed progress. Adjustments were made to entry/exit structures to minimize impact on arterial roads and footpaths.

The project, which began six years ago, has undergone multiple revisions in cost and scope, with the final budget set at ₹63,846 crore. The remaining acquisitions include land parcels between Sholinganallur and SIPCOT in Siruseri and other small sections across the city. CMRL aims to complete this critical phase soon to progress further on the transformative metro expansion.
