Web portal to redress grievances of electors

A web portal to redress grievances of electors in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections in the city is being  developed by the Chennai District Election Office.

It will have comprehensive data and information on the elections and on each Lok Sabha constituency in the district, including maps. “The portal is likely to attract official attention to violations of the model code of conduct. It will facilitate immediate action by the District Election Office,” an official said.

The web portal will also be a window to issues pertaining to elections in each neighbourhood in the city. With a large number of electors in the age group of 18-30 likely to use such a facility in the city, the District Election Office is planning to use the portal to improve turnout in the elections.

The scrutiny of complaints will also help officials promote ethical voting and identify gaps in enforcing the model code of conduct. The District Election Office will start popularising the web portal shortly.

The contents of the portal are likely to include electoral rolls, voters’ awareness videos, information on booth-level officers, vulnerable and critical polling stations and data on returning officers, assistant returning officers, electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers.

Voters will be able to complain about violations of model code of conduct
