With the monsoon season leading to a surge in fever cases, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) has established a dedicated fever ward to address the influx of patients. Following recent rains, Chennai and surrounding areas are witnessing an increase in cases of viral fever, dengue, respiratory infections, and vector-borne diseases.

The new ward, inaugurated by RGGGH Dean Dr. Theranirajan on Thursday, includes 50 beds and is staffed round-the-clock by doctors and nurses. "Currently, patients are being managed across 15 different wards, and we are prepared to increase the number of beds as needed," Dr. Theranirajan said.

According to a report by Maalai Malar, although most patients are receiving outpatient treatment, doctors expect influenza cases to persist until December.
