Chennai airport modified the schedules of 30 flights on Monday morning as Bhogi festival smoke reduced visibility. Three IndiGo flights from Delhi and Bengaluru were canceled. Affected flights included routes to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Muscat, Kuwait, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and several domestic cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
The dense smoke, caused by burning old items as part of Bhogi celebrations, made flight operations challenging. Passengers were informed of schedule changes via phone messages, and officials are monitoring the situation to divert flights if conditions worsen.
Such disruptions are common during Bhogi. In 2018, 118 flights were affected, while in 2024, disruptions dropped to 51 flights.
