The Mugappair Mangal Lake is a reservoir widespread all over 5.32 acres or 2.32 lakh sq. ft. This is located in Mugappair, Chennai.
In Mugappair, this has been serving as the primary source of water. The lake gets largely contaminated with the industrial wastes, especially Ambattur Industrial Estate.
Back in 2005, the lake was renovated with the construction of a compound wall all around the lake spread across 30 acres land at Rs 20 lakh.
The first phase of the work began in July 2009 where a walkers’ track of 4.5m width and 520m length with lighting facilities was set up at a total expense of Rs 60 lakh.
Later, in the second phase of the renovation work, at a cost of Rs 25 lakh, children play area and park will be set up, and the necessary works are yet to begin.
To note, the Achalathamman temple is located alongside the banks of the lake.
