The Pallavaram big lake is a reservoir spread across 200 acres land area or 87.12 lakh sq. ft.
It is present in Pallavaram on the eastern part of Railway Track between Chrompet and Pallavaram.
The lake has got dried up and the industrial waste waters ejected out of leather factors in Chrompet and garbage dumped along the lake are to be rebuked for the same.
Lakshmi Nagar and Ganapathipuram are the areas lying close to the lake. These are used as burial site to perform funeral rituals.
The big lake, though ‘big’ in its name, does not contain any water in it.
There is a load linking Chrompet or Pallavaram and Thoraipakkam via the center of the lake. In a few areas of the lake, there are bore wells dug for draining water out of the lake for commercial water supply needs.
