The Kuthambakkam bus terminus, near the Thirumazhisai satellite township, is on track for completion by March next year, according to the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). The ₹427-crore project, spanning 25 acres, aims to ease traffic congestion at the Poonamallee terminus and further decongest the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) in Koyambedu.
Key Features:
- Capacity: Over 200 buses with exclusive bays for State transport, omni buses, and MTC.
- Amenities: Air-conditioned waiting lounges, omni bus parking, food courts, ticket counters, and passenger dormitories.
- Parking: Basement parking for 1,700 two-wheelers and 250 cars.
About 80% of the work is complete, and the facility is expected to benefit commuters similar to the Kilambakkam bus terminus for south-bound passengers.
Residents and industrialists from Thirumazhisai and Irungattukottai have urged the government to extend the metro rail from Poonamallee to Thirumazhisai to address last-mile connectivity issues in the region.
