GCC Sets ₹500 Cr Property Tax Target for Early Payment Period
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has set a target of ₹500 crore in property tax collections during the April incentive period in the first half of the 2025–26 financial year. This comes after a record collection of ₹2,023 crore in 2024–25, the highest in the past 16 years.
A 5% discount on the net property tax is offered for payments made between April 1 and 30, with a cap of ₹5,000. Last year, ₹379 crore was collected during the same period under this scheme.
To improve efficiency, GCC has decided to privatize tax data management. A tender was floated in March to maintain records of property and professional tax collections and dues. Tax reminders will also be sent via WhatsApp, including QR codes for easy payment.
Officials believe the positive response to the incentive scheme will help achieve the new target this year as well.
